Phil
Johannes brings forty five years of experience to his craft of photography.
Initially working with black and white film in his own darkroom,
Phil evolved over time to master and utilize all camera and film
formats: 35mm, 4x5, 6x7 and 8x10. In the 1970s, he returned
to college and studied photography at the College of Marin under
Thomas Johnson and Timo Pajunen. At one time, Phil owned and operated
a photography business specializing in portraits, families, commercial
work, and professional color printing.
Today, Phil Johannes uses digital
photography and methodology, from camera to computer to finished
hand printed Giclée print. He believes that a successful
photographic image must be simple and straightforward, yet have
a quality of mystery and ambiguity. The overall mood of the image,
which is enhanced by an acute clarity and an effective use of
tone and color, is of ultimate concern.
Phil has spent a lifetime in the
air. After ten years as a United States Air Force fighter pilot,
he embarked on a career as a commercial airline pilot for Western
and Delta Airlines spanning almost three decades.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of
Arizona State University, with a dual major in Anthropology and
History, Phil Johannes has lived in four countries and six states.
He and his wife have twins, with three grandchildren.
Phil Johannes is available for
